Mendocino

Mendocino is a village that sits on the rugged cliffs of California's northern coast. The town dates to the 1850s when it was established as a logging community. Today, Mendocino is a haven for artists, nature lovers, and those seeking an escape. The entire town is designated as a California Historical Landmark, reflecting its well-maintained historical buildings and structures.

Also nearby is 150+ year old lighthouse Point Arena Lighthouse where you can climb to the top of the 115' tall Lighthouse Tower California Coastal National Monument and enjoy views of the Pacific Ocean.

One of Mendocino's most popular spots is Mendocino Headlands State Park, which surrounds the village on three sides. This park offers views of the Pacific Ocean, dramatic coastal cliffs, and scenic hiking trails. The headlands are also a prime spot for whale watching, especially during the migration seasons when gray whales pass by close to shore. Mendocino's downtown area is a mix of mom-and-pop shops, art galleries, and cafes. The streets are lined with beautifully restored Victorian homes, many of which have been converted into bed-and-breakfasts, boutiques, and restaurants. Local artists showcase their work in numerous galleries, reflecting the town's strong artistic heritage. The Mendocino Art Center, founded in 1959, is a cornerstone of the local arts scene, offering workshops, exhibitions, and events year-round.

The park also features a natural blowhole and the Devil’s Punchbowl, a collapsed sea cave that forms a natural amphitheater.
